Threat Assessment
In accordance with Act 55, both the Punxsutawney Area Elementary School and the Punxsutawney Area High School have active Threat Assessment Teams. These teams provide assessment and intervention with students whose behavior may indicate a threat to the safety of the student, other students, school employees, school facilities, the community, or others. These teams include individuals with expertise in: school health, counseling, school psychology or social work, special education, school administration, and the safety and security coordinator appointed under section 1309-B or a designee. Other school staff or community resources who may serve as regular team members or be consulted during the threat assessment process, as appropriate, and as determined necessary by the team, include school security personnel, law enforcement agency representation, behavioral health professionals, the individual identified by the school entity to receive reports from the Safe2Say Program, an individual who serves on the student assistance program, and/or juvenile probation professionals. When conducting assessments, the Punxsutawney Area School District follows the flow chart and procedural model set forth by the Pennsylvania Commission of Crime and Delinquency.
