Punxsutawney Area School District Emergency Protocols

EVACUATION

An EVACUATION is the organized, phased and supervised withdrawal, dispersal, or removal of students, personnel, and visitors from dangerous or potentially dangerous areas (FEMA).

CLASSROOM HOLD

A CLASSROOM HOLD is a general use protocol.  This is used to keep students away from a given situation until the incident is resolved.  This protocol can apply to numerous situations such as a Weather Event, EMS incident prior to class hall movement, Drug Dog Search, etc.

PERIMETER HOLD

A PERIMETER HOLD occurs when there is any threat, event or incident OUTSIDE of the school building.  Precautions are made to safeguard students and employees within the building.

LOCKDOWN

A LOCKDOWN occurs when there is an imminent or current threat, event or incident to the health or welfare of the school population.  The threat, event or incident may be internal or external within the proximity of the building.

SHELTER

SHELTER is a precaution aimed to keep students, personnel, and visitors safe while remaining indoors primarily due to a weather related (tornado, hurricane, etc.) event requiring movement to a structurally safe location within the building or another nearby structure.

***Unless directed to do so, parents/guardians are asked to NOT come to the school in the event of an emergency.  Parents/guardians should wait for TextAlert notifications and/or other official communication for response directions.
The Punxsutawney Area School District has established emergency response and operation plans with local law enforcement and emergency services.  For optimum response and mitigation, it is important that families stay clear of the site, allowing first responders to secure the scene.  In many of these response plans, students will be transported to alternative sites to be reunified with families.  In the event that this occurs, directions will be communicated through TextAlert notification and/or other official communication.  Please be sure to bring an ID when picking up your student from an emergency event.

If you are not signed up for the PASD TextAlert notification system, you can register for the notifications here.
