School Resource Officer Program

The Punxsutawney Area School District partners with the Punxsutawney Borough Police Department to provide one school resource officer at the Punxsutawney Area Elementary School and one school resource officer at the Punxsutawney Area High School.  This agreement ensures coverage through normal operating hours, as well as many of the after school programs and events.  All school resources have conducted the 40 hour training through the National Association of School Resource Officers.

The triad concept of school-based policing divides the School Resource Officer responsibilities into three areas: Public Safety Educator, Mentor/Informal Counselor, and Law Enforcement Officer.

The goal of the School Resource Officer Program is to provide safe learning environments, provide valuable resources to school staff members, foster a positive relationship with students, and develop strategies to resolve problems that affect our students with the goal of protecting all students, so they can reach their fullest potential.
