SUBJECT: Speech and Language
GRADE: Elementary
Hello and welcome to my web page. My name is Sheri Acre. I provide speech and language support for students in the 3rd and 4th grades at the Punxsutawney Area Elementary School. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama and went on to earn my master's degree in Speech/Language Pathology from Clarion University.
SLP's have many roles in the school setting. The following are a few examples of different tasks a SLP may encounter throughout a typical day:
- Prevention and treatment of communication disorders
- Assessment of students' communication skills
- Identification of students at risk for later problems
- Development and implementation of IEP's
- Documentation of outcomes from treatment or therapy
- Collaboration with teachers and other professionals
- Advocacy for teaching practices
- Participation in school-wide curriculum
