Mask Mandate Update, 12/10/2021
Late this afternoon, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court affirmed the Order of the Commonwealth Court, which vacated the masking mandate. The mask mandate, as it applies to K-12 schools, has been lifted effective immediately, and the Punxsutawney Area School District will return to optional masking within school buildings. This applies to all students, staff, teachers, and building visitors.
Please note that this decision does not impact the federal directive requiring all passengers and drivers to wear a mask on school buses, including on buses operated by public and private school systems; these requirements remain in effect.
PASD will continue to try to keep all students safe as the COVID crisis continues. All student and staff’s health and safety are paramount during this pandemic. To reduce the possibility of quarantine, individuals are encouraged to keep a protective face covering in their possession and to consider utilizing it when social distancing is not possible.
PASD will continue to update our community when necessary. Our goal is to maintain face-to-face education, safely for all of our students. Hopefully, by working together, we can achieve this goal.
