George Wehrle-Head Coach

  Name: George Wehrle-Head Coach

1.  Date of Birth: October 2, 1967

2.  Hobbies/Interests (besides running!): Reading, bicycling, tennis, classic rock music (learning the history and listening to), tending to the property where I live.

3.  Favorite Subject(s) in School: It was a long time ago, but I remember liking English, Physical Education and History.  I was not a science or math guy.

4.  Favorite Book(s): Recently read The Deer Camp, currently reading Twilight of the Gods (about the end of classic rock music) and Amazing Racers, about the high school xc dynasty Fayetteville-Manlius.

6.  Most Memorable Running Moment: One of my best races was a 5k in Warren in 1992 that I won in 16:41 after laying off the pace in the first half of the race before catching the leaders in the final mile.

7.  Favorite Place To Run: The trails near my house.  I enjoy the familiarity of them and the solitude, and maintaining them in the summer gives me something to do that is constructive.

8.  Favorite Food Or Drink: Pizza from two or three of our local places, Diet Pepsi, good old cold water from the well/tap.

9.  Running Makes Me Feel: Like I accomplished something to start my day.  It relaxes me and gives me a chance to experience the weather in all four seasons.

10.  Best Thing About Running:  It's easy to do by yourself, and no matter how much slower I get I still enjoy pushing myself and getting out there every day.

11.  Worst/Least Favorite Part About Running: I wish I could run faster, so that's frustrating.  Not really wanting to race anymore, and I'm not exactly sure why.  Sweating a ton in the summer!

12.  What is Something Hardly Anyone Knows About You That Is Surprising Or Unusual?: I have a large comic book collection from my youth and have close to 2000 Sports Illustrated magazines, nearly every issue since 1981.
