Bill Clemento

Bill graduated from PAHS in 1977 where he competed in Track (9), Football (lettered 10-11-12 and was co-captain 12), Basketball (lettered 10-11-12 and was co-captain 11 & 12) and Baseball (lettered 12).    He was All Gazette in football 12 and was nominated for the Big 33.  He was an honorary captain in football and basketball his senior year.  He was the leading receiver in District 9 football his senior season, and leading rebounder in District 9 Basketball. He was a member of varsity club and was president his senior year.  He was also voted Best Athlete of the Year his senior year. He had a number of athletic scholarship offers in football and baseball, including an appointment to West Point.  He opted to play football at IUP but at the end of his 2nd year had to resign due to health reasons.  He played college baseball at the University of Alabama Birmingham. 

 

Frank German

Frank is a 1980 graduate of PAHS and was a stand out in Cross Country and Track and Field.  In Cross Country he was a 2 time District 9 champion during his junior and senior years.  At the PIAA State Championships he was a 3 time All State medalist (an individual runner finishing in the top 20) in 1977, 1978, 1979.  This makes him the only Punxsy runner to have 3 All-State finishes and only 1 of 2 Punxsy runners (along with Dave LeCompte) to have 2 top 10 finishes at states.  Frank led the 1977 cross country team to Punxsy’s first ever team State Championship and a top 25 national team ranking.  He has the #1 time (15:28) for courses 3 miles long and  all-time list for 5,000 meter courses behind Mike Hampton & Dave LeCompte.  In track he was a 9-time District  9 Champion having won titles in 880 years run, the mile, and 2 mile run as well as both relays.  At states he was a 2 time PIAA medalist 6th place in the 2 mile his sophomore year and 2nd place in the 1600m his senior year.  He was second only to eventual US Olympian Steve Spence – both Frank and Steve broke the state record in the 1600 races.  By the time Frank graduated, he held 5 school records.  Today his 1600 record of 4:13 still stands after 42 years.

 

Joseph Harclerode, II

Joe graduated from PAHS in 1984 and lettered in basketball and track & field in grades 10-12. In basketball, he was All-County grades 10-12 and Honorable Mention All-State during his senior year.  He scored 1,226 points and holds rebounding records.  He attended Metro Index Basketball Camp and was named to the “Sweet 16” of the camp, where the best 16 players (out of 400) played an All-Star Game in front of over 100 Division I and II college coaches.  He was invited to try out for the McDonald's All-American Team and made it to the final day of cuts.   He was also offered 7 division I scholarships and over 15 Division II scholarships for basketball.  He accepted a full-athletic scholarship to Hofstra University in Long Island.  He had a solid career highlighted by scoring 6 points in 3 minutes on the road at Notre Dame and started in 6 straight games his senior year where they won 5 of those contests.  Upon graduation from Hofstra, he was granted a full-academic scholarship to complete his graduate work where he was in the first class to graduate with an MA in Teaching of Writing.  He recently retired from teaching English after 33 years in the East Meadow School District.  During his time there, he spent several years as a basketball and volleyball coach.  He also won Coach of the Year several times. 

 

Joe Martin

Joe was a stand-out in baseball, basketball and football before his graduation in 2003 from PAHS. He is a 4 year letter winner in football and baseball and was a 3 year letter winner in basketball.   In football he was named to the District 9 All-Star team during his junior and senior years, 2002 Indiana All-Gazette 1st team QB, and broke the single-game passing yards record (322) and broke the single-season passing record in 2002 (1,616).  His career passing yards totaled 3,214.  He played in the 2003 Lezzer Lumber Football Classic, named 3rd team All-State QB by Pennsylvania Football News in 2002.  He led Punxsy to their first playoff appearance since 1991.  In basketball he was named to 1st team District 9 and played in the Kozel All-State Classic.  He graduated from Slippery Rock University with a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science.  He enjoys racing dirt track late models – in 2009 was named Rookie of the Year with approximately 80 career wins.

 

Daniel Reitz

In his youth, Dan was a place winner in recreational track, played Jr. High Basketball, played JV Football, and participated in and placed at Junior Olympics. He is a 3 time letter winner in Football and Track and Field in 1973-74-75 and is a graduate of PAHS Class of 1975.  As a halfback in football he scored numerous touchdowns and was the leading rusher in most games.  Coach Cassebaum mentioned that he was “his workhorse in the backfield.”   He was co-captain in 1975.  He was also football MVP.  He was a standout in track as well, which earned him the Prep Track & Field Athlete of the Year Award.  He excelled at the 120 yard high hurdles, 330 yard intermediate hurdles and held school records in these events.  At Districts he took first in the 120 high hurdles and 2nd in the 330 intermediate hurdles.  He also ran on the 880 & mile relay teams.  He also set the District IX record in the 120 yard hurdles in 15.0.

 

James Barilar

Is a posthumous inductee who graduated in 1950.  He lettered in basketball, football and track.  He received first team All Northwestern PA honors in football as a junior and was the only repeater of first team honors in 1949 as a senior.  He was first team All District in 1948 and 1949.  He was named to Class A second team and was 5th in total scoring in basketball in District 9.  In track and field he came in 1st in pole vault at Districts, ran in the 880 relay placing in 2nd at Districts, and came in 3rd in broad jump at Districts.  He was unable to compete his senior year due to a knee injury.  He also played baseball and fast pitch softball outside of school.  He helped coach and manage Punxsy Little League.
