Local Scholarship Information
The following is a list of scholarships and academic grants/loans provided by local organizations. These financial awards are available to Seniors at Punxsutawney Area High School and are offered to help students defray the costs of a post-high school education. A description of eligibility requirements is included with each scholarship/grant/loan below. The applications are often revised annually and many of these scholarships do not accept applicants until Spring; when applications are available, they will be accessible on the High School Guidance Office website.
Allison, John R. Memorial Scholarship
Applicant must be enrolled in post-high school educational institution and show financial need.
American Legion Auxiliary
Offers scholarships to female students. Preference will be given to daughters/granddaughters of Veterans. Applicant should show proof of relationship to veteran. Financial need will be considered. Post graduates may apply.
Barletta, Thomas Scholarship
To qualify, you must meet 4 of the 5 following criteria: 1-grade point average of 90% or above for four years of high school; 2-class standing in the top two fifths of the class; 3-involvement in high school and/or community activities of services; 4-employed while in high school or college; 5-graduating senior of Punxsutawney high school.

Bodenhorn, Brandy (Dobson) Memorial Scholarship
PAHS graduating senior who is accepted in an accredited college or nursing school,must display leadership, active in school or community activities, minimum GPA of 85%. Preference will be given to students enrolled in a health care related field. Post graduates may apply.
Boles Foundation Loan
Interest-free loans may be granted to PAHS graduates. Loans are limited by the amount of money available. The average amount of the loans is about $500. Applications may be obtained at the high school guidance office.
Bowser, Erik John Memorial
PAHS graduating senior who is accepted in an accredited post-secondary program, demonstrates financial need and demonstrates strength of character. One (1) male and one (1) female will be selected as recipients.
Brudnock Memorial Scholaship
Must be a PAHS graduating senior, be accepted in an accredited program for teaching or nursing, and show financial need.
Brush, James Memorial Scholarship
For PAHS graduating seniors with a minimum 87% average, financial need (middle income preference), community service involvement, planning to attend a 2 or 4 year program.
Burkett, Cheyanne R. Memorial Scholarship
Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to a PAHS graduating senior. One will be awarded to a senior pursing the medical field and one from other areas. Personal statement and other documents also required.
Bush, Melody Memorial Scholarship
For PAHS graduating seniors with a minimum of 85% average who will be enrolled as a music major/minor in a post secondary program. You must also show financial need and have the recommendation of the band/ choral director.
Cochran, Connie Memorial Scholarship
For PAHS graduating seniors planning to attend a 2 or 4 year program who have maintained an 85% average or higher and with a family income level of $28,000 to $35,000. No family members may apply.
Davis, Grace Scholarship
Awards several students who are PAHS graduating seniors with high academic achievement and strong character planning to attend a college or nursing program. Post graduates may apply.
Defelice, Jospeh C. Sr. Scholarship Fund
Must be a PAHS graduating senior with a GPA of 80% or better. Student must be enrolled in a two year or four year college and show financial need. Mid income level must be such that you will not qualify for state or federal govt. student aid.
Dinger, Max E. and Maude M. Scholarship Fund
Varied number of awards to PAHS graduates pursuing four year, two year, and nursing school programs. Financial need, academic achievement and character will also be considered. Post graduates may apply.
This scholarship is offered to PAHS graduating seniors who have a father or grandfather who is an Eagles member. Applicants must be accepted at an institution of post high school education, show financial need, and show proof of Eagle member's relationship.
Hallman, Polly Memorial Scholarship
For PAHS graduating seniors planning to attend a four year college, who have a minimum 85% grade point average and have displayed leaderhip qualities. Community service is strongly considered.
Hetrick, James and Elizabeth Memorial Fund
Must be PAHS graduating senior, show academic achievement, involvement in community and school activities and show financial need.
Irvin, Mary Ann Scholarship
A local scholarship available to PAHS graduates. The grant is based on financial need. Post graduates may apply.
Italian Sons & Daughters of America
For any graduating PAHS senior who has been accepted in a two or four year college program or an accredited trade or technical school. You must show financial need and demonstrate a strength of character.
(IUP) McQuown Memorial Scholarship
This award is given to all PAHS graduates during the college freshman year of attendance at the Punxsutawney campus of IUP. Post graduates may apply.
(IUP) Punxsutawney Area College Trust
This award is for PAHS graduates who will attend the Punxsutawney campus of IUP. Post graduates may apply.
Jenks, John W.
PAHS graduates who will attend college, have been involved in school and community activities, have achieved academically, and show financial need may apply. Students may reapply with a college transcript up to four years. Post graduates may apply.
This is for any PAHS graduate who is planning to attend a post-secondary school. The selection will be based upon leadership, scholarship, and volunteer service.
Marion Center National Bank
PAHS graduating senior who is accepted in a two (2) or four (4) year program with math, computer, or business related major. Attendance and behavior are strongly considered.
This award is for a PAHS graduating senior who has a diagnosed learning disability or is pursuing a career in special education
Meneely, Clyde R. Scholarship
The recipient of the scholarship exhibits some of the qualities that Mr. Meneely himself possessed: character, achievement, civic pride, cooperation, dependability, and helpfulness. The recipient of this award is chosen by faculty. There is no application form.
Parise, Anthony J. Jr. Memorial Scholarship
For PAHS graduating seniors who have two years involvement in sports, involvement in school and community activities, have a 90% or higher GPA and are in the top 5th of their class.
Pearce, Clayton Memorial Scholarship
PAHS graduating senior who will be attending Penn State DuBois Campus with a minimum GPA of 87%, good attendance and community involvement. SAT scores also considered. Post graduates may apply.
Punxsutawney Area Education Association (PAEA) Scholarship
A scholarship is awarded to a PAHS graduating senior who plans to major in education. Selection is based on financial need, and a written paragraph explaining why the applicant has chosen to enter the teaching profession. The amount of the scholarship is $2,000 ($500 per year for 4 years).
Punxsutawney Arts Association Scholarship
Requires a letter of acceptance from the college you will be attending, a summary about yourself and your art, and photographs of three pieces of art work that best represent your ability.
Punxsutawney Community Center
The applicant must be a graduating senior who has been a volunteer at the Punxs'y Community Center in the last twelve months and plan to attend a full-time two (2) or four (4) year program. An essay on the purpose of being a volunteer at the Community Center must also be included.
Punxsutawney Wrestling Club
For PAHS graduating seniors involved in the wrestling program. Team spirit, leadership, dedication and years of involvement are strongly considered.
Rodgers, Katherine and Mary Memorial
Graduates of Punxsutawney Area Hgh School who will attend college, have been involved in school and community activities, have achieved academically, and show financial need may apply. Students may reapply with a college transcript up to four years. Post graduates may apply.
Shaffer, Kayla Scholarship
For students enrolled in a program in a medical related field, minimum GPA of 87% and a 250 word essay on career choice. Post grads may apply.
Smilo, Amanda I. Scholarship
PAHS graduating seniors must have been Band members in Middle School and High School. Applicants must be accepted into a college or university. Three (3) letters of recommendation for outstanding character must be submitted, one of which must be from the high school band director. The scholarship is for $500.
Snyder, Paul A. Trade School Memorial Fund
Must be a PAHS graduating senior entering a trade or technical school (most 2 year programs) with grades at least 80% or better. Must show financial need (mid income level). Income must be such that you will not qualify for state or federal student aid
Stahl, Mollie Memorial Scholarship
For students who have participated in at least one Punxsutawney Theater Arts Guild production as either a performer, instrumentalist, stage crew member, or member of the production staff. Must be accepted at a college.
Criteria include academic achievement, financial need, geographic priority to Sykesville/contiguous area, and field of study in any field but priority goes to powdered metal engineering field.
Zettle, Thomas Lanigan Memorial Scholarship
For current seniors enrolling in a 2 or 4 year vocational school / college. Show financial need--mid income level such that you will not qualify for state or federal aid
